Page 1 of 2 This conference took place in Ouagadougou from November 27 to 29, 2007 under the
auspices of Burkina Faso Ministry of Mining, Quarries and Energy and sponsored by French Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, French
Environment and Energy Management Agency, French Development Agency, French Global Environment Fund,
European Union program
Intelligent Energy-Europe through BEPITA project and COMPETE, Danish International
Development Agency and TOTAL. All issues
related to implementing biofuel usage and production channels in various
African contexts were addressed.
The
conference has finally highlighted that biofuels are today an
opportunity Africa should not miss after having considered the
agronomic, technical, environmental, ethical and
regulatory and market aspects in addition to the private sector potential
contribution. Biofuels can contribute to
African countries economic and social development through reducing the gap between
urban and rural areas. The
debates have generated recommendations for the short term (starting today), medium term (5 to 10
years) and long
term (10 to 20 tears).
